The essence of my work explores the transformative potential of space & simple materials. A painting, for example, starts from humble globs of colored dirt, then through masterful manipulation shapes in to a vivid reflection of reality. With that mindset I’m compelled to alter the identity of other ordinary materials, strip away their intended function, and rebuild them to feel entirely different.
Throughout my process, I’m looking for moments when a material does something totally unexpected. When it transcends beyond recognition to a place bordering the sublime*. Like hot glue becoming cracks in a window, each piece is designed in this way to imbue the medium with newfound wonder.
To frame the viewing experience, ideas are pulled from stories, nature, and personal observations. Often these consider aspects of trapping a moment, or preserving the intangible.
